The Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in Cape Town
With mountains, beaches, forests and parks galore, Cape Town is a pretty cool place to own a dog.
Whether you’re scouting out some of the Mother City’s dog-friendly areas, or you’re just looking forward to some pup-filled beach time this summer, be sure to check out some of our favourite dog-friendly beaches.
Long Beach, Noordhoek/Kommetjie
If you and your dog need to burn off some energy, this is the beach for you. Your pooches will hardly believe their luck as this beach walk seems to go on forever! Don’t worry though – you can turn back whenever you like. Although this isn’t the best spot to share a swim due to the chilly water, the open space is great for dogs (and humans) who love to play.
Sunset Beach in Milnerton
If a view is what you’re after, it doesn’t really get any better than this. Admire Table Mountain in all its glory while you enjoy a casual stroll with your dog – preferably at sunset. Don’t forget your camera!
Milton Beach, Sea Point
Why not combine a walk on the popular (and dog-friendly) Sea Point promenade with a dip in the natural tidal pool at Milton beach – an ideal mid-walk pitstop. If you’ve got a pup who loves to paddle, this is a must-do this summer.
You don’t have to steer clear of all the popular beaches if you decide to bring your dog. Clifton 1st welcomes dogs at all times, all year round. Next time you head out early for a beach day, skip 2nd and 3rd and head to 1st so that your furry friend can join in on the fun. Keep in mind that dogs are also welcome at Clifton 4th between April and October.
The perfect sundowner spot just got even better – between November and March dogs are welcome on Llandudno before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. If sunset picnics are your thing, this is the spot for you. Don’t forget to pack a towel for your dog – it’s highly likely they’ll be wet and sandy by the end of the evening.
Sunrise Beach, Muizenberg
If you’re looking for something a little closer to the Southern Suburbs, Sunrise Beach in Muizenberg is a winner. You do have to keep your dog on a lead though, so pack your costume so that you can frolic in the waves together. During the summer season (from December to March), dogs aren’t allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. – so get your beach visit in early.
