Get Your Home Ready for Christmas
It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas. Is your home looking the same way?
Whether you’re a pre-planner who thinks about Christmas all year long or the do-your-shopping on Christmas Eve type, a few small preparations can go a long way.
Being prepared means hosting loved ones over the festive season is a lot less stressful. At PropertyFox, we have just the tips help you whip your humble abode into Christmas shape.
Make A List
We’re not referring to your list to Santa. Now is the perfect time to write a list of the things you need to buy and a guest list of who will be visiting. This will help you to determine costs and budget. Also, make a list of the tasks that need to be completed in your home.
Get Spic and Span
If you skipped the Spring cleaning, now is a time to get going. Your Christmas decorations won’t look nearly as pretty if they’re nestled in with cobwebs. Give the house a deep clean, dust, vacuum, mop, and polish, and clean out the refrigerator.
With cleaning comes decluttering. Between the decorations, gifts and guests, your home will be packed this festive season. Make space where you can by decluttering key areas.
Prepare Your Living and Dining Rooms
To ensure the two most used rooms at Christmas are up to scratch, why not give them a little refresh? Whether it be adding a comfy armchair next to the Christmas tree for grandma to sit in, buying new made-to-measure curtains or creating your very own upholstery to fit in with your décor.
Organise Your Kitchen
As the host, you’re going to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Get organised. Sort out the clutter, make sure all the tools you’re going to use are easily accessible and give the oven a good scrub. The same counts if you’re going to braai for your Christmas lunch.
Plan for Extra Guests
The holiday season might mean a few unexpected sleepovers from time-to-time. Even if you have a small space, you can box clever and has extra beds. A sofa bed or a daybed makes a great addition to any room. Remember to invest in extra bedding and towels, too.
Create a Comfy Guest Bedroom
If you have a guest bedroom make sure you get it ready and comfortable for visitors. Extra blankets, slippers, a festive scented candle and some fresh sheets will make it feel like home.
Get Your Tableware Christmas Ready
Decorate your table with plenty of sparkles and mistletoe this Christmas to ensure you get the most ‘Instagrammable’ photos of your food. What better way to jazz up your dining room than with new tableware? Whether you’re on the hunt for new serving plates, champagne flutes or most importantly: a cheese board, there’s a huge range of festive tableware to choose from.
Consider your Christmas Décor
With only a few weeks left until Christmas, it’s time to start considering your 2018 Christmas décor. Get in the festive spirit by taking some time out to browse different festive trends and styles. Whatever décor style you decide on, have fun with it.
Set the Mood
Now is time to set the mood and dust off that ‘Mariah Carey’ or ‘Boney M’ CD to play as your holiday soundtrack. Nothing spreads Christmas cheer like a soundtrack full of classic holiday tunes. Find a local radio station that plays Christmas music, buy a CD, or find a playlist on the internet. Additionally, some television stations play classic Christmas movies during the month of December. Having a Christmas movie playing in the background will help set the mood as well.
Oftentimes, it’s difficult to know where to begin, or where to go next once you’ve started. By planning ahead, you’ll be able to prepare your home for Christmas and enjoy the holiday season with minimal stress.
