Living in Yzerfontein

Nov 21, 2018 | All, Lifestyle

The harbour village of Yzerfontein has come to reflect a lifestyle of peace and tranquillity. The town is one of most the pristine and picturesque on the West Coast.

From the long ridge on which the village is perched, Table Mountain is clearly visible and it is only 55 min to reach Cape Town city centre from Yzerfontein. Outside of the town is another quaint village called Darling, which offers an abundance of restaurants, galleries and interesting shops.

Origin of Yzerfontein

As the name suggests, a fountain was discovered and the prefix ‘Yzer’ is believed to have come from the rust-coloured, iron flavoured water that it produced. Other tales say the name may have come from a large slab of ironstone found near the fountain.

The town started out when the farm “Yzerfontein” was bought by the Katz-family in the 1930s. They then decided to divide the farm into plots. The Katz family continues to have a very close and strong association with the Yzerfontein community. They’ve been directly involved in the establishment of the modern-day town of Yzerfontein.

Yzerfontein has grown substantially over the last few years, whilst still managing to retain it’s small town feel. There are many beachside restaurants and coffee shops to choose from, hair salons and, as one expects, grocery stores, pharmacy and even a spa. Its harbour is quite busy when it is crayfish or snoek season and local fishermen can be seen casting their lines from the beach on a daily basis. The main sources of income are tourism (especially during the wildflower season from August to October), mining and fishing.

Ocean Villas Yzerfontein

The village offers a peaceful lifestyle for its residents; whether you are a nature lover, sun-seeker, water sports enthusiast or simply looking for a more relaxed lifestyle.

If you are looking to leave the hustle and bustle of the city then investing in the new Ocean Villa residential estate is a good place to consider. Only 55min from Cape Town CBD, you could live the lifestyle, and commute to work if you have to 😉 No longer a sleepy seaside village, Yzerfontein on the West Coast is the new Hermanus and the development caters to everything you want in a residential estate. Nestled between two pristine beaches, the estate offers a sublime oceanfront experience with unobstructed views towards Table Mountain to the south or Dassen Island to the west.

These days Yzerfontein is no longer a sleepy sea side village.

The Ocean Villas consist of three residential nodes. Phase 1 – the West Side is currently selling. The design manual will reflect contemporary West Coast architecture and buyers have a choice of simplex of duplex plans to choose from. Beachfront erven range in size from 535sqm to 740sqm. Each home in Ocean Villas Yzerfontein will also incorporate a bespoke conduit design to optimise current and future security and technology services.

The residential nodes will be controlled by secure access points and the infrastructure will feature a state of the art network for DSTV and fibre.

During certain periods of the year, Ocean Villas residents can expect to encounter beautiful wildflowers, the tell-tale spray of Southern Right or Humpback whales breaching in the bay and a variety of birdlife.

With Yzerfontein boasting the World Famous Sixteen Mile Beach (which is a rarity treasured by residents and visitors alike), it comes as no surprise that investing in the small town is a golden opportunity.
