Free State

Living in Free State

Formerly known as the Orange Free State, the Free State Province is situated on the succession of flat grassy plains sprinkled with pasture land that rests on a general elevation of 3800 feet that is only broken by an occasional hill.

As agriculture dominates the majority of the province’s landscape, South Africa has this province to thank for its position as one of the top ten maize producers in the world with the majority of the crops coming from the Free State, also making the province popular for its Mielielande (cornfields).
The province has been described as one of the best provinces to live in because of the residential area, Dan Pienaar, situated in the South African judicial capital, Bloemfontein. The Dan Pienaar area offers tranquility various leisure facilities close by. It is only 15 minutes from Bloemfontein Airport and 7 minutes from the Botanical Gardens.
