Gauteng

Living in Gauteng

Although it is the smallest province in South Africa, Gauteng is still the most urbanised and densely populated area in the country containing our largest city Johannesburg (better known as Joburg, Jozi or Egoli), our administrative capital, Tshwane (commonly known as Pretoria) and other industrial areas such as Midrand and Vanderbijlpark.

Given its unique geography on the South African Highveld with its high-altitude grassy plateau, the province offers a plethora of natural beauty and mineral wealth. The province is also home to the picturesque Magaliesberg and Witwatersberg mountain range.

The Gautrain, Gold Reef City, Constitution Hill, the Union Buildings and the Maboneng Precinct are all but a few of the points of interest in the region. Many choose to reside in the province because of its thriving economy and exemplary tertiary institutions as Gauteng is also a large center of learning in South Africa as it has many universities and other educational institutions of higher education.
